Street Fighter 5’s ‘Definitive Update’ with major balance adjustments to release March 29

It’s been announced that Street Fighter 5’s “Definitive Update” will be releasing on March 29, a week from next Tuesday. According to Street Fighter 5 Season 5’s roadmap, this upcoming update is slated to contain the game’s final batch of major balance changes.

Capcom has released a trailer that showcases a sneak peak at what will be changing in the upcoming patch. The trailer spans for about three and a half minutes, so there’s actually quite a bit of information to unpack from the showcase.

According to Capcom, this update will contain major balance changes, a cel shading filter, a pixel filter, new tracksuit colors and Cap-Jams remixes in-game. This will evidently be quite a meaty update.

Based on what’s shown in the trailer, a lot of characters are having their combo routes expanded on significantly. For example, buffs were shown for Ryu in two separate parts of the clip.

In one scene, it’s shown that Ryu will be able to dash forward a lot sooner after an fireball while V-Trigger 1 is active. It will now be possible to combo into an EX dragon punch even at mid screen.

Another part of the video showcased how Ryu’s V-Skill 2 has been improved. If Ryu is able to successfully counter an opponent with his V-Skill 2, he’ll be able to cause a wall bounce. Combined with a cancel into one of his V-Triggers, Ryu can tack on a lot of additional damage.

For other characters, certain moves that did not have EX variations now have them. Menat’s Soul Spark now has an EX version that will cause her crystal ball to stay in position. This means that Menat can activate an EX Soul Spark multiple times during a juggle.

Ibuki’s Kasumigake, her command dash and command jump special, has also gained an EX variant. When used, the EX Kasumigake will behave mostly like the heavy version (the command jump), but it will also hit opponents on the way up.

Based on what’s shown in the trailer, it feels like the average power level for the characters will be rising by quite a bit when the update rolls out. Even the top tiers seem to be getting access to extended combo routes.

As for the cel shading and pixel filters, it’s noted in the trailer that these features are for offline only. These features will not be accessible in online modes.

Check out everything that will be releasing on March 29, 2022 in the clip below:
