Denver Broncos at Los Angeles Chargers: Game predictions, picks, odds

    play

The Los Angeles Chargers (5-7) won last week by only scoring 6 points, but they might need a little more offense in an AFC West matchup against the Denver Broncos (6-6).

The two teams face off for the first time this season in Week 14 at SoFi Stadium.

The Chargers beat the New England Patriots with two field goals. Justin Herbert was 22-of-37 passing for 212 yards and Austin Ekeler was held to 18 rushing yards, his lowest total of the season. The defense sacked Bailey Zappe five times and forced a fumble.

The Broncos snapped their five-game win streak in a 22-17 loss at the hands of the Houston Texans. Russell Wilson threw three interceptions for the first time since last season’s Christmas game where Denver lost 51-14 to the Los Angeles Rams. All-Pro defensive back Pat Surtain II tweaked his knee in the game.

The two teams split their matchups last year. In the season finale, the Broncos won 31-28 at home with Wilson throwing three touchdowns. Denver receiver Jerry Jeudy had five receptions for 154 yards. He has yet to register 100 yards in a game this season.

Lorenzo Reyes: Broncos 19, Chargers 17

I think the wrong team is getting points here. The Chargers don’t have an offensive identity, are poorly coached, and constantly make mistakes. The Broncos had their five-game win streak snapped, but they committed uncharacteristic turnovers and I think they correct that against L.A., which is middle of the pack in takeaways.

Tyler Dragon: Chargers 23, Broncos 21

These two AFC West rivals are fighting for their playoff lives. Khalil Mack has an NFL-high 15 sacks. Keenan Allen is the sixth player in NFL history with five career seasons of 100 or more receptions. The Chargers need both veterans to play at a high level to keep their very slim playoff hopes alive.

Safid Deen: Broncos 24, Chargers 20

This has the makings for another close game that won’t go the Chargers’ way. Denver scores a big win to boost their playoff hopes, while the Chargers begin their coaching search on Monday.

Victoria Hernandez: Broncos 23, Chargers 17

The Chargers scored 6 points last week. Their offense is less trustworthy than the Grinch who stole Christmas. Russell Wilson and the Broncos got a bit of a wake-up call last week in a loss to a really solid Houston team. Pat Surtain II’s health might be a factor here since the Broncos’ defense is already without Kareem Jackson. But regardless, Russell Wilson has shown he can get his offense going and Justin Herbert has not.

Jordan Mendoza: Chargers 23, Broncos 21

Los Angeles probably had the most embarrassing win last week, but the offense should wake up against Denver. The Broncos fell just short of extending their winning streak, and they have another letdown on the road.
